Calie + Doug's Aspen Wedding
It was a beautiful June wedding in Marble, CO, home of some of the most famous marble stone suppliers in the world. The town was really unique; literally there were marble statues and marble stones decorating the homes and properties throughout the town. Supposedly, the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. was actually built out of marble supplied from Marble, CO (Interesting tidbit of the day). Needless to say, this little town is very proud of it's history.
Calie and Doug live in St. Louis, but have a fond love of Colorado because Doug spent some of his upbringing living in Rifle, CO. When they started planning their wedding, they wanted something unique, and not just to have their wedding at a typical St. Louis venue in the city. Their heart was set on Chair Mountain Ranch, close to the several Aspen Ski Resorts, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. They truly found a gym in this venue. The beautiful mountain views, the Aspen trees close by and the rustic charm of Chair Mountain Ranch couldn't have create a more perfect day.
Congratulations, you two!!
How They Met:
The couple met in 2006 after a loss of someone special to the both of them, Doug's aunt and Calie's best friend's mom. They had mutual important people in their lives and found their paths crossing a number of other times over the next few years. They became very special to one another quickly and had an immediate connection although initally the timing then was not right for either of them. But they knew they loved each other then. Over the next few years, Calie would always take her car to Doug's repair shop to get it worked on, and then in December of 2009 he invited her to be his date to his company's Christmas party. They have spent very few days apart since that day.
Their Engagement In The Words Of Calie:
Christmas Eve has always been a very special and fun day for me growing up. It is filled with family, fun, food, cheesy games, singing carols to grandfather's accordion playing, and so much more. On December 24, 2015, Doug proposed outside of my grandparents home before that infamous Christmas Eve celebration began. He always had to work on Christmas Eve and would usually arrive a little later than I did. This year was no exception. He called and asked for my help bringing some things in so I went outside and found my brother Cory's Santa hat laying on the side of the garage. Curious, I peaked my head around the corner to find Cory hiding in the bushes. I was clearly confused. Doug distracted me by calling me over to the front of the car, pulled out a box, opened the box and got on one knee to ask me to spend forever with him. After I said yes, we got to go inside to tell my parents first out on the deck, then go inside and share our exciting news with so many people who are so valued and important to me. We toasted our engagement with a round of grandfather's famous homemade Irish Cream. The following day we were able to share the exciting news with Doug's family on Christmas morning.
